Swachhta Activities of nacin chennai during the years 2017-18, 2018-19 & 2019-20

NACIN Chennai pursued the goal towards a Swachh Bharat with right earnest.  Officers and Staff contributed their mite to the cause of a clean India through various activities.  

Swachhta Activities of 2017-18

During the swachhta pakhwada, several activities like cleaning of the roads in the neighbourhood, cleaning and tidying of the Hostel premises, planting of more than 100 trees in the plot belonging to NACIN and developing a flower garden in front of the hostel etc., were carried out.  Old and mutilated records and furniture were segregated and dispose off. In our endeavour to create a clean and sustainable environment, this Institute adopted two government run schools - a high school and a primary school which caters to the lowest strata of the society.  These schools which had not been painted for more than two and half decades were painted partly by voluntary service by the Officers and staff and partly by hired labour.  Similarly, the toilets, particularly the girls' toilets were repaired and refurbished and adequate sanitary fittings and water supply was provided. These schools, which had decrepit appearance were transformed into clean, tidy and hygienic place.

Swachhta Activities of 2018-19

            Two main projects were taken up as part of Swachhta Action Plan 2018-19.  The first project was adoption of a local Govt. Panchayat Union School and carried out various swachhta activities like painting the school,  fixing of pipes for providing drinking water,  creation of space to carry out bare minimal activities related to education like tidy blackboards, storage space for bags  of children, re-furbishing of the mid-day meal kitchen,  fixing a gate,  planting saplings of trees and setting up a garden in the premises.   Renovation of the toilets and repairing an existing borewell for water supply to the toilets. The second project was painting the walls of the NACIN Hostel and renovation of toilets for providing clean rooms for the trainees.

Apart from the above, essay competitions and poster making competitions on Swachhta were conducted for the trainee inspectors attending Induction Course during Swachhta Pakhwada. Drawing competitions were also held for the students of the local Government Primary, Higher Secondary and Panchayat Union Primary School on theme Swachhta and prizes distributed to the winners and the participants.

NACIN Chennai also carried out a cleanliness drive at Ambattur Industrial Estate.   The officers and staff cleaned the streets and cleared plastic waste and debris from the area.   As a part of anti-plastic drive, the officers and staff distributed pamphlets to general public and also distributed Jute bags with anti-plastic slogan to the officers, staff, visiting faculty and to school students.   Bio Composters were purchased for disposal of wet waste in a useful way.

Swachhta Activities of 2019-20

            NACIN Chennai carried out a number of activities during the current year.  As a first project, cloth bags stitched with Swachh Bharat and anti-plastic slogans were distributed to trainees, visiting faculty, officers and general public to create awareness against use of plastic.   Refurbishing of toilets in NACIN Hostel, white washing and gardening at the NACIN Hostel was also taken up.  The roof garden at NACIN Chennai has been improved with new landscaping to provide greener environment.  Working towards the goal of achieving more green coverage, NACIN Chennai also intends to plant at least 50 saplings a month at different schools and other organizations where they will be cared for, as one of the major projects under SAP 2019-20.
