SOME ACHIEVEMENTS OF NACIN MUMBAI IN THE RECENT PAST (JAN 2024 – AUGUST 2024)
Workshop (Bootcamp) on ‘Authentic Leadership’
NACIN, Mumbai conducted one day Workshop (Bootcamp) on “Authentic Leadership’ on 10.01.2024 at NACIN Campus, Bhandup, Mumbai in offline mode for the Group ‘A’ officers. 20 officers from CGST, Customs, Appeals, Audit, DGGI, DRI, NACIN formations participated in the workshop. The objectives behind conducting the said workshop were to discover one’s key strengths; build rapport and connectedness with fellow officers; shift to a higher level of thinking to build relationships and deliver results. Shri Rohan Singal, Principal leadership coach & co-founder of Rejoiss, who has considerable knowledge and professional experience in this field, was the faculty to guide the participants.
Workshop for MBA (International Business)
Students of IIFT was organized on 17.01.2024 on the request of IIFT, New Delhi and as a part of their MBA (International Business) curriculum. The objective was imparting management education in International Business, conducting research on issues related to global business environment and trade policies. This workshop provide exposure to students about the commercial activities and operations enabling them to prepare better in their career. Dr. Muhammed Rafi, Assistant Professor and Dr. Oindrila Dey, Assistant Professor who are present here as a faculty coordinator from IIFT, New Delhi. Shri Deepak Mata, Deputy Director, PCCO, Mumbai was present as a faculty and guided the officers.
Workshop on 15th ADVAIT- Bootcamp for Data Science Champions.
NACIN, Mumbai conducted two-day Workshop on 15th ADVAIT- Bootcamp for Data Science Champions on 15-16.02.2024. Officers for various formations i.e. Customs-Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Delhi, CGST-Pune, Nagpur, NCTC, Mumbai, DRI, Mumbai, etc. attended the said workshop. They were given hands on exercises on generating reports using the dashboard in ADVAIT and first-hand experience of working in a given situation.
Training of Embarkation officers
NACIN, Mumbai conducted three-day Workshop on 28.02.2024 to 01.03.2024 on Overview of Customs Rules during Import and Export for officers of Embarkation (HQ), Mumbai wherein emphasis was given to overview of Customs Act, 1962, Methods of Valuation of Imported goods, classification in Customs, among other custom related issues.
Workshop for Group A officers
A workshop on “Mindfulness – Work Life Balance” was conducted on 04.03.2024 for half day at Daya Shankar Auditorium, New Custom House, Mumbai. 79 Gr. A officers and 27 Gr. B officers attended the said Workshop. Dr. Mohit Gupta, Cardiologist, TEDx was the Speaker.
Workshop on Cross Border Investigation
A 5 days’ "Cross Border Investigations” workshop was conducted from 18.03.2024 to 22.03.2024 by Homeland Security Investigations (HIS) Office of International Affairs, Embassy of the United States of America in partnership with NACIN Mumbai at JW Marriott, Sahar, Mumbai. 32 officers from Customs, DRI, NCB participated in the Workshop.
Workshop for IRS Probationers
A Workshop for the Officer Trainees of 75th Batch of IRS (Customs & Indirect Tax) was conducted by NACIN, Mumbai from 01.04.2024 to 05.04.2024. Out of five days, classroom training was conducted for 2 days i.e. 01.04.2024 and 05.04.2024 and field attachment for 3 days i.e. 02.03.2024, 03.04.2024 & 04.04.2024. 43 officers attended the said Workshop.
During the field attachments, on 02.04.2024 & 03.04.2024, Officers were attached to JNPA and JNCH where officers got to know about various facilitation measures like Centralized Parking Plaza, DPD, Customs clearance on wheels for self-sealed goods, various stages of risk management like manifest level, declaration level and post clearance audit. Various technologies like Optical corrector reader and RFID used in the X ray scanning facility. Officers were also getting to know about functioning of SIIB, increasing role of technology, the Container Freight Station (CFS), and a sea patrol.
On the 4th day of their attachment with NACIN Mumbai, the Officer Trainees visited Bharat Diamond Bourse where they interacted with Bharat Diamond Bourse’s President gaining invaluable insights into the diamond industry. They also visited the Airport Special Cargo Commissionerate, where they witnessed firsthand the pivotal role played by customs in facilitating the import and export processes of polished and rough diamonds. Later on, they visited SEEPZ SEZ, a prominent Special Economic Zone in Mumbai. Development Commissioner addressed the trainees, providing valuable insights into SEEPZ's role as a hub for economic activities.
MDSEI Seminar
NACIN, Mumbai under the aegis of Multi-Disciplinary School of Economic Intelligence, (MDSEI) conducted a Seminar on “Combating financial crimes under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA): A 360° perspective” on 8th & 9th August, 2024 at NACIN, Mumbai in offline Mode for Group-A officers of various departments.
The Seminar was conceptualised with an objective to enlighten the participants on various interconnected topics such as GST linked to PMLA, Import-Export regulations, bank frauds, emerging technologies, narcotics, and crime, all within the framework of PMLA compliance. The topics were carefully selected so as to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to identify, prevent, and report instances of money laundering and related financial crimes effectively. The faculty were also selected based on their expertise in various fields related to the topic.
The highlight of the Seminar was an interactive session with celebrated Author, journalist and screenwriter Shri S Hussain Zaidi, whose accomplished and well-known works include Dongri to Dubai, Mafia Queens of Mumbai and Black Friday. Shri Hussain Zaidi delved into the complex world of Crime and Law Enforcement and gave rare insights into the working and practices of drug and mafia dons.
Sixty-Four officers from various Departments including law enforcement agencies such as Customs, CGST, Income Tax, Police, Enforcement Directorate, Forest Deptt., CRPF, Embarkation HQ, etc., attended the Seminar. The participants expressed great appreciation for the Seminar, the course content, and the faculty's expertise.
Training of ITS (Indian Trade Service) officers
A two-week training program on ‘Capacity Building in Customs and Indirect Taxes’ for ‘Indian Trade Service (ITS) Probationers commenced at NACIN, Mumbai on 19.08.2024. At the inaugural session, Shri Prabhat Kumar, Pr. Additional Director General, NACIN, Mumbai interacted with the officer trainees.
Besides classroom training, the officer trainees were also taken to various field formations, viz. Air Cargo Complex, JNPT, DRI, DGFT etc. to get them practical exposure.
The Vigilance Dialogue: Weekly Series
NACIN Mumbai conducted a new weekly series on Tuesdays titled 'The Vigilance Dialogues' from 11.30 am to 1.00 pm (including a 15-minute Q & A session) in the months of June 2024 and July2024. The sessions were conceptualized and delivered by Shri Prabhat Kumar, Pr ADG NACIN Mumbai on various aspects of Vigilance. These tailored sessions aim to foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within Vigilance organizations. One such session was delivered by Shri Surjit Singh, Director (retd.) Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).
Faculty Development program
Since January 2024, two Faculty Development progams (FDP) have been conducted at NACIN Mumbai – 1) from 20.02.2024 to 22.02.2024 and 2) 25.09.2024 to 27.09.2024. This Faculty Development program aims to empower the faculty pool with the necessary skills and strategies to create a dynamic and impactful learning environment for our trainees.
Vigilance Awareness Week
As a curtain raiser for Vigilance Awareness Week-2024, a Nukkad Natak (Street Play) was organized at Marine Drive, Mumbai by DG Vigilance Mumbai, Mumbai Zonal Unit in collaboration with NACIN, Mumbai. It was followed by Integrity March on Marine Drive, Mumbai by officers of the department as an outreach measure and for sensitisation for general public at large. Also, DG Vigilance, WZU, Mumbai, in collaboration with NACIN Mumbai, organised a one-day Workshop on 29.10.2024 at NACIN Campus, Mumbai. Shri Prabhat Kumar, Pr. ADG NACIN Mumbai and Shri Sushil Chandra, Addl Director, DGoV, WZU, delivered the sessions. The workshop was attended by departmental officers across Maharashtra and Goa. On the occasion Shri K. R. Uday Bhaskar, Chief Commissioner, CGST & C. Ex., Mumbai who was the Chief Guest on the occasion released the inhouse magazine “NAMAN” of NACIN, Mumbai . A Nukkad Natak (Street Play) on this year’s theme was also performed in the lawns of NACIN, Mumbai.
