NACIN ZTI Shillong is a premier training academy of Govt. of India and was established in June 2017 for training and capacity building of officers and staff working in Guwahati Customs and CGST Zone, comprising 7 states of North East India. Post GST implementation, as part of its mandate and considering poor training infrastructure of NE States, NACIN Shillong has taken up the special responsibility of training the state GST officers of NE States as well along with CGST officers of the zone.
Nestled in the heart of Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, the largest Hill station of India. The cadre Restructuring 2014 has considered sanction of Zonal Training Institute for the first time in Guwahati Zone covering the entire North Eastern Region having a geographical jurisdiction comprising of seven states – Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura. The Academy was relocated in the month of January 2019 from Customs, NER Shillong to Meghalaya State Housing Financing Cooperative Society Limited Complex at Nongrim Hills, Shillong – 793003.
The mandate of this Academy is to impart training to officers of all Central GST and State GST formations, covering the jurisdictional area of the entire NE India. The Core Competency areas of this Academy are ‘Border trade with Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh’ and ‘Prevention of Wildlife Trafficking/Smuggling, Smuggling of Narcotics, Arms & Ammunition through Indo Nepal, Indo Bhutan Border’. The Academy is also taking initiative in sensitizing and building capacity of trade and other stakeholders of North East Region. Specialised training for officers of all level is also conducted in collaboration with Indian Institute of Management, Shillong, North Eastern Police Academy (NEPA), Umroi, and Police Training School, Umran. This Academy is also having a good co-ordination with Regional Training Institute, Indian Audit & Accounts Department Shillong, North Eastern Hills University, Shillong and other Colleges and Institution located in Shillong.
