THE PROJECT
The NACIN Palasamudram project was announced by the then Finance Minister, Shri Arun Jaitley in the budget 2014-15 on the sprawling 500 acres of land given by the Andhra Pradesh government. The village of Palasamudram was chosen for its strategic location and accessibility as it is located along the NH 44 with a serene drive of 90 mins from the Bengaluru Airport. The foundation stone for the project was laid by the Hon'ble Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman on 5th March 2022 and the construction of the buildings is underway since July 2022 . The first phase of the project including the ‘critical buildings’ was slated to be completed by July 2023. NACIN is envisioned to have state-of-the-art facilities, including lecture halls, discussion rooms, computer labs, library, sports complex, field training center and hostel accommodation for trainees
THE VISION AND THE MISSION
Being set up during the period of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM), the campus aims to live up to the aspirations of New India. Being the first greenfield project since the constitution of the Capacity Building Commission, the New NACIN Campus is determined to achieve the objectives of the Mission Karmayogi. By harnessing the international face of Customs, the campus also aims to collaborate with the Customs administrations across the world in the true spirit of Vishwaguru Bharat. The socio-economic upliftment of the regions surrounding the campus by adopting a Jan- Bhagirdari model is also planned by including the local villagers in various activities on campus such as apiculture, pisciculture, goshala, nursery management, orchard management etc.
OUR WONDER LAND IN AND AROUND THE CAMPUS
The campus aspires to be global centre for learning in the domain of Indirect taxes and Narcotics and at the same time profess and propagate the local culture and tradition. The campus will be embellished with the artwork in collaboration with the renowned Sir JJ School of Art which will showcase the rich cultural history and the identity of our great nation. The region around NACIN Palasamudram which has many notable tourist destinations such a Lepakshi, Penukonda and Puttaparthi attracting tourists from across the world. The campus already hosts a guest house named ‘Benishan Huts’ – name inspired from the mango orchards surrounding the hutments which serve as the guest house along with ancillary facilities such as open gym, volley ball court, bicycle tracks etc. For the spiritually inclined, there is also a meditation zone – name Neljore which was inaugurated by the Chairman CBIC during one of the visits to the campus.
TECH & SMART AT THE HEART
The campus is envisaged to be a State of the Art with the latest developments in information technology incorporated into the project right from its inception. The campus is envisaged to be a Smart Campus with an Integrated Command Control Center (ICCC) at the heart to manage the resources in an efficient manner and also to provide seamless user experience of all the facilities. Technology is also adopted to enhance the training methodology by providing for ‘phygital’ experience centers/training facilities in the domain of Narcotics, Wildlife, Marine Customs, BIS, green Customs, IPR, AR-VR Training facility, Advance Shooting Simulator etc.
SUSTAINABILITY AT THE CORE
The Palasamudram campus next to the beautiful lake aptly named the “milky ocean” (Pala-samudram) in the local language is an abode for variety of flora and fauna and has more than 3000 trees like mangoes, tamarind, chiku, lemon etc. In a scientific survey undertaken to document the fauna of enumerated 11 mammals, 68 birds, 10 reptiles, 37 butterflies who have built their home in the grassland, rocky, aquatic ecosystems all of which is manifesting in its majestic magnificence in our beloved campus. The construction of the new campus is underway with all out efforts to reduce the impact to the environment and ecology to the minimum. Targeted to be a GRIHA 5-Star rated campus, NACIN aims to achieve energy efficiency both by adopting scientific sustainable building principles as well as harnessing renewable sources of energy such as Solar, wind and biogas.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE GREEN INITIATIVES
The greening and ecology team of NACIN is working to develop the 500 acre campus into a green heaven by developing 30 different theme based parks in around 300 acres of vacant space by incorporating the indigenous varieties of plants. Some of the notable highlights of the green initiatives under the project are –
- The campus would become 100% solar powered campus meeting all its energy requirements through mega solar plants.
- The campus aims to be a zero-waste campus.
- With ponds and lakes envisioned to hold 20 Crore litres of water, the campus aspires to be net water positive.
- It will be an organic and self sustaining campus
- Will provide conducive environment to nurture the young minds in the service of the nation.
